Setting a Price Alert

The Alerts facility allows you to receive an email and/or SMS text alert when something happens in the market of interest to you. Alerts can be set on individual tickers, indices and on entire portfolios and watchlists.

The most common kind of alert is setting a price alert set on a ticker when it exceeds or breaks below a set price point. This is what we will cover here.

There is another How To Post that covers setting alerts for other types of events and for more complex scenarios, such as setting an alert on a portfolio.

The Alerts Facility is accessed via the Start Menu as shown below.

Alerts Start Menu

To set a price alert on a ticker, you first select the Create Alert tab and then the Ticker radio button (1. and 2. in red in the screenshot below). Then you enter the ticker (3. in red).

The next step is to set your actual price alerts. In the example below we are using two alerts: an Exceeds Price alert, and a Falls Below price alert for Amazon (AMZN), as outlined in the blue box.

To set the price alert, we set the actual target price (1. In blue).

Then we can enter an optional comment that is included in the price alert to remind us of our thinking for creating the alert (2. In blue).

Lastly, we decide where the alert goes – email and/or SMS text (3. In blue).

Set Price Alert

Once the alert is set, We can go to the Current Alerts tab and see the alerts we have just created, as shown below.

Current Alerts

With the price alerts now set, we wait and let Stock Rover do the rest.

If the alert fires, and we have asked for an email, we will get an email that looks like this. Note the alert email shown below was for a price alert set for Microsoft.

Email Alert Below Target Price

We also asked for a SMS text message, and it looks this on your phone.
