Stock Rover features a highly customizable interface designed to optimize workflow. This section details various methods for managing Stock Rover’s panels, including resizing, collapsing, detaching, and maximizing them to suit individual preferences. Essential navigation tools such as Breadcrumbs and the efficiency of right-clicking for quick access to functions are also covered.
Additionally, powerful features like multi-select for applying actions to multiple items, drag-and-drop for effortless organization, auto-resizing columns for optimal display, and convenient keyboard shortcuts are available for a streamlined experience.
Stock Rover offers right-click functionality throughout its interface, providing instant access to many capabilities.
You can right-click on an object to bring up a menu of all possible operations that can be performed on that object. Examples include columns and rows in a table, or individual portfolios, watchlists, and screeners in the Navigation Panel.
Right-clicking directly on an item like Portfolios, Watchlists, or Screeners displays a menu with actions specifically tailored to that feature.
Right-clicking anywhere else brings up a menu that provides access to all available features.
You can access display options by right-clicking on any column. The available options will change based on where you right-click on the Dashboard. For instance, right-clicking on a column heading or using the pulldown menu in the Current Holdings section will show sorting and grouping options.
You can right-click on both a folder and an item within a folder. Below, you’ll see the right-click options for Screeners; there are also unique right-click options for Portfolios and Watchlists.
In this example, right-clicking a folder presents general Screener management functions, while selecting a specific screener reveals capabilities unique to that screener.
You can right-click on columns and rows.
Right-clicking a column reveals a number of capabilities, including sorting and grouping options, while right-clicking on a row presents configuration and display options unique to the ticker.
Portfolio Analytics, Future Income, Future Simulations, Rebalancing, and the Trade Evaluator all display their results in a tabular format.
As a general rule, whenever you see tabular results, right-clicking or selecting the pulldown on a column heading will expose additional display options, including sorting and grouping.
In the example below, a column heading in the Portfolio Analytics Tool was right-clicked.
The panels in the Stock Rover user interface are designed for easy manipulation, allowing you to optimize screen real estate
You can resize all panels by dragging their edges with your cursor. Keep in mind that some panels may have a minimum width.
Most panels, including subpanels like the Navigation Panel, can be fully collapsed by clicking the triangle button, as shown below
Panels can also be fully collapsed by double-clicking the white border between them, as shown below.
To reopen a collapsed panel, simply click the triangle button again.
Premium users have the ability to detach the Chart and Insight panels from the home screen, allowing you to spread Stock Rover panels across multiple windows.
Other features that can also be detached include Markets, Stock Ratings, Analytics, Correlation, Future Income, Future Simulations, Rebalancing, Alerts, Earnings Calendar, and Metric Browser.
To detach any detachable window, click the button shown below, which is located on the rightmost part of the blue header bar in the panel you wish to detach.
To return a panel to the home screen, close the detached panel window; the panel will then reappear in its original home screen location.
Users can also maximize the Main Table, Chart, and Insight panels, making the maximized panel occupy the entire home screen.
To maximize any of these panels, click this button, which is found on the right side of the blue header bar in the panel you want to maximize.
To restore panels to the home screen, click on All in the Start menu on the left side of the screen.
If the Insight or Chart Panel has been maximized, a “restore all panels” icon is available, as seen in the screenshots below. Clicking this icon will restore all three panels: Insight, Chart, and Table.
The multi-select capability allows for quick and easy selection of multiple items for research and display.
Checkboxes provide an option to select multiple portfolios, watchlists, or screeners for inclusion in the Table. This is useful when you want to perform research across multiple portfolios or watchlists, or run several screeners simultaneously.
When you click on a folder or subfolder, checkboxes appear next to the folder items. You can select either all folder items or a subset of them.
Under Watchlists, the Watchlist folder was selected, and all watchlists across all subfolders are now selected.
To clear the list of checked objects, right-click on a specific object and select Check Only. This will select only the highlighted object.
To select more that one item, first select all items as described above Then, check the first item as described above, and then check the additional items you want to select, as shown below.
Multi-select is an option to select multiple items in a Table if you want to perform the same action on a group of tickers or items. It can be useful for various operations like tagging, coloring, portfolio trades, adding a set of tickers to a watchlist, or deleting alert history.
You perform a multi-select operation by holding down the Shift or Control key on the keyboard. With the Shift key, you can select a contiguous set of rows. With the Ctrl key, you can select individual rows, one by one, that may or may not be next to each other.
For the Shift key, you first select a ticker in the Table, which is the top row in the group you want to select. Then, scroll down to the last item you want to select, and hold the Shift key while selecting the last item. Stock Rover will highlight all items between the first and last selected items, as shown in the screenshot below. You can then perform an action on the group by right-clicking, which will bring up an action menu where the selected action will apply to the selected group.
For the Ctrl operation, hold down the Ctrl key and then click on the items you want to perform the action on. This selects the items individually, as shown in the screenshot below.
The Drag and Drop feature simplifies moving items and organizing Stock Rover to your preference.
You can also use drag and drop to add tickers to the Chart, or to Portfolios or Watchlists. Additionally, you can reorganize your View structure using drag and drop.
When you select Portfolios, Watchlists, or Screeners under My Collections, you can reorder the panel display by dragging and dropping a specific item or folder.
To reorder the Navigation Panel, click and hold down the mouse on an item or folder, then drag and drop it to a different position.
Here, a portfolio is being moved to a different folder.
Here, the folders under Portfolios are being reordered.
Using Drag and Drop you can reorder the Active Quotes list.
Using Drag and Drop, you can easily move columns within the Table. You can also change the order of the rows.
To drag a column in the Table, just click and hold a column header to move that column to a new spot.
To drag a row in the Table, click on its ticker or name cell (leftmost column) and hold down the mouse to drag and drop the row into a different position.
You can use drag and drop to add items to the Chart.
Here multi-select was used to choose tickers in the Table to plot together. To add the selected items to the chart, click on a selected ticker in the Tickers column and hold down the mouse and drag to the Chart.
You can also drag and drop a ticker from the Table into a watchlist or portfolio.
First, ensure the Watchlists and/or Portfolios folders are expanded under World.
When you drag a ticker into a portfolio, you’ll be prompted to enter a quantity, with options to modify the buy price and date.
Here, drag and drop is being used to add a ticker from a watchlist to a portfolio.
Using Drag and Drop you can reorder the Views and the View Folders.
A common use case is to create a Favorites folder and drag and drop the views you use most often into it.
To reorder the views and view folders, click and hold down the mouse and drop to a different position.
The breadcrumb trail in the header indicates your current location within Stock Rover. These breadcrumbs are clickable, enabling quick navigation to any Stock Rover function.
Breadcrumbs are especially useful when the Start Menu and/or Navigation Panel are collapsed, allowing you to better utilize your screen’s real estate.
You can configure whether breadcrumbs are always visible or only appear when the Start Menu and/or Navigation Panel are collapsed, under preferences.
Below, both the Start Menu and Navigation Panel are collapsed. The breadcrumb trail clearly shows your exact location in Stock Rover:
1. Screeners – You are currently evaluating Screener results.
2. All – You are displaying All Layouts, which include the Table, Chart, and Insight Panel together.
3. Safe Performers – This refers to the screener results you are currently researching.
4. CALM – This a ticker that passed the screener and was selected for research from the Table.
The breadcrumb trail enables you to navigate virtually anywhere in Stock Rover with a single click.
The example below illustrates the navigation options available via your current breadcrumb trail:
1. ← Will takes you “back” to your previously selected Stock Rover function.
2. Screeners – Launches the Start Menu, where you can then select a Stock Rover function.
3. Safe Performers – You can also switch to a different screener.
4. CALM – Launch ticker-specific functions.
Columns in Stock Rover tables inherently have different widths. Additionally, the number and composition of columns displayed in a table are variable and configurable. A third consideration is that the size of the table a set of columns are displayed in can vary based on the browser window size. This can lead to horizontal column scrolling if all columns don’t fit, or wasted space in the table if the columns don’t use all of the table’s real estate.
To address this, a ⟷ button is available that automatically fits all your columns into the window. This feature is accessible in the Dashboard, Table, Historical Data, Trade Planning and Rebalancing, Portfolio Analytics, and Metric Browser. The screenshot below displays the icon that performs this task
The auto-resize function only applies to the current view.
Please note that you cannot undo this action. However, you can manually resize any column by simply dragging the edges of its header, as shown below.
Stock Rover offers a set of useful keyboard shortcuts to make common tasks within the application fast and easy.
The keyboard shortcuts can be viewed from the account pull down menu as seen in the screenshot below.
The keyboard shortcuts are as follows:
If you would like to be automatically logged into Stock Rover whenever you use the product, you will need to take the following two steps.
First bookmark a page in you browser in the product other than Stock Rover’s home page. For example, https://www.stockrover.com/markets/summary.
Then log in again and make sure the “Stay Signed in” option is checked. Please see the screenshot below to see what needs to be checked.
Now when you go to this bookmarked page, your credentials are saved and you will not need to log in to use Stock Rover.
Once you have set auto-login up, you should exit Stock Rover by closing the browser. If you explicitly log out of Stock Rover, it will cancel the auto-login, and you will need to log in normally the next time. Also note that after approximately two weeks of inactivity, i.e. not using Stock Rover, the auto login will go stale and a normal login will be required.
