More Features Added to Stock Rover V8

In this post we will cover some recent changes and additions to Stock Rover V8. Included are new capabilities in the Chart facility as well as improvements in the Insight Panel, Table, and Screener Manager. In addition, the Mobile Experience has been enhanced.

You’ll get these changes automatically when you log into Stock Rover.

Charting

A new chart option and two new technicals have been added.

Price and Dividend Adjusted Price Lines Together

A new chart option, which is especially valuable for high dividend paying stocks, is available in the Chart under Settings [13]. The new option allows for the plotting of both the price line and the dividend adjusted price line simultaneously.

Dividend Adjusted Price [14]

In the chart below, the blue line is showing the price return as a percentage and the green line is displaying the dividend adjusted price return as a percentage.

Forward Returns

There is a brand new chart called Forward Returns available in the charting facility under Technicals [16]. The new Forward Returns chart calculates the price percentage change between the price at current data point on the chart and the the price at the end of the selected Future Period.

The length of the future time period is selectable via the hamburger control (i.e. 3 horizontal lines) in the upper right hand corner of the chart. The available future time periods are 5-day, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year.

For example, if you select to chart the 1-Year forward return then the data point displayed for January 1st, 2021 is the price percentage change from January 1st, 2021 to January 1st, 2022.

In our example 5-Year chart below, we see that whenever Conoco Phillips’ sales between a quarter and the same fiscal quarter one year ago decline (red arrow), the forward 1-year return below it goes negative (“red”).

Conversely when the Sales QoQ increases (green arrow) the 1-Year forward return below it goes positive “green”. There are no data points to the far right as we don’t yet have a full year’s worth of data for that period of time.

Volume by Price

Available in the Chart under “Technicals”, the new Volume-by-Price chart shows the volume within specific price ranges for a selected time period. Each horizontal bar corresponds to a price range and displays the number of shares traded in that price range based on the closing price for the day. The green portion of the bar indicates the volume where the price closed higher than the open price. The red portion of the bar indicates the volume where the price closed lower than the open price.

The Volume-by-Price chart can be used to identify price support or resistance levels. The price bars with heavy volume (the long bars) are indicative of elevated interest. Long bars with a range under the current price should be watched as potential levels of support, while long bars with a range above the current price indicate potential levels of resistance.

In the screenshot below, the top chart is the price chart, and it shows AFLAC’s current price is $57.79. The Volume by Price chart is below the Price chart, and when we look at it, we see that the longest bar shows the volume in the $54-57 price range. As the current price of $57.79 is just above the $54-57 price range, this is indicative of a potential level of price support.

Insight Panel

A new chart has been added to the Insight Panel under Visuals, in the Dividends [19] tab. The new “Returns” chart displays the ticker’s return including dividend reinvestment. The grey portion of the chart shows the price change, while the blue represents the Total Return, which includes price appreciation plus the reinvested dividends.

At the bottom of the Returns chart is a brief explanation of the ticker’s returns. In our example below, the price appreciation for Intel since 2007 was 33%. However Intel’s total return since 2007, which includes both price appreciation and dividends, and where the dividends are reinvested, results in a much larger gain of 107%.

Screener Manager

Within the Screener Manager, when Add Criteria [21] is selected and a metric that supports history is chosen, you can now select the time period from which to filter on.

Add Criteria [22]

Once you click ‘Add Criteria’ a new window is launched (shown below).

When a metric where history is maintained is selected, an edit button along with [Now] is displayed under Filters. [Now] represents the most recent trailing twelve-month value for the metric. Clicking on edit changes the time period.

In our example, our filtering criteria is currently set to Earnings Per Share (EPS) for the most recent trailing twelve-month exceeding $3.75

Add Criteria [23]

When the edit button is selected, choosing anything other than [Now] converts the criterion into an equation. You can select to filter on criteria that are Quarterly going back 9 quarters, Trailing Twelve Months going back 10 years, or Calendar Year going back 10 years.

Below we are selecting to change our filtering criteria to reference the Most Recent Quarter.

Select History [24]

The Screener Manager then automatically creates the associated equation.

In our example the screener is now populated with an equation filter:

EPS[MRQ] (for Most Recent Quarter) > $3.75

Equation [25]

To see all the metrics where history is maintained, select Metric Browser [26] from the Start Menu and filter for “Yes” in the History column. This will return a list of all the metrics for which history is maintained.

Please note: Historical metrics are available only with the Stock Rover Premium Plus plan.

Table

A new “Research Links” option has been added to the context menu in the Table. You can right-click on a ticker, and select Research Links from the ensuing menu. Once Research Links is selected, a sub-menu of the customizable list of research links appears. Selecting one, will send you to the associated external research site, using the current ticker for context. The external site opens in a new tab in the browser.

The research links are fully manageable. You can include links to your favorite financial sites by selecting “Manage Research Links”. To do this, simply right-click on a ticker and select Research Links. Then specify Manage Research Links, which is the first item on the sub-menu.

Tried the research reports feature, and was told my plan (Premium Plus) does not include that feature. I did not see that info in the blog post.

Research Reports are a separate subscription. The Dow 30 stocks are available for free however.

Hello

When viewing graphs, is it possible to just select time frames by using drag-and-drop with cursor?
VectorVest has this capability and I find it much easier to use than plugging dates in on a box at the bottom of the chart.

#4 Comment By Howard Reisman On November 20, 2022 @ 6:18 am

No that is not currently possible.
